Ook over AIDS wordt hier weinig gesproken. Het komt volgens de officiële cijfers dan ook niet veel voor, in totaal kent Jordanië zo’n zeshonderd mensen die met HIV besmet zijn. Dit nieuws zal dan ook wat gek in de oren klinken voor iemand die net in Afrika is geweest.
Jordan Times, 22 maart: Three new AIDS cases were registered at the Irbid Health Directorate this month, bringing the total number of reported cases in the Kingdom since the beginning of this year to nine, according to a National AIDS Programme (NAP) official. “The three new cases involved males, two of them non-Jordanians from India and Kazakhstan. Their ages range between 28 and 52 years.” After the two workers tested positive for AIDS, NAP officials met with them to identify the source of their infection. “The foreign workers were immediately deported and their names were sent to the Ministry of Interior to ban their entrance to the country in the future, Jarrah said.
